1. High-style Terracotta

There’s nothing quite like terracotta when it comes to giving a cosy ambience to your home.

But contrary to popular belief, they don’t just come in earthy shades. They can come in some many rich colors and tones.

In fact, the Moroccan Zellige tile which has a high-gloss finish and intricate Spanish/Moorish patterns is a glazed terracotta tile.

Choose the right Mexican floor tile design, and it can make any space look high-end.

2. Saltillo Tiles

This tile is as Old Mexico as it gets. It’s named from the Mexican city from which authentic Saltillo tile is made by hand. It’s a rough edged terracotta tile that usually comes in shades of orange, red and yellow.

There are plenty of options, from Antique Saltillo that gives off that Old Mexico vibe to Manganese Saltillo tiles that make for excellent statement flooring.

They come in hundreds of color choices and sizes so whatever aesthetic you have in mind, you’ll probably find the perfect one for you.

This Mexican tile can be used on practically any room from kitchens to dining rooms, living areas, bathrooms, and even bedrooms.

If you live in an area where there are no freezing temperatures during winter, you can use it for patio flooring.

3. Talavera/Ceramic Tiles

Some ceramic tiles were designed to give a Mexican vibe but if you want an authentic look, go for Talavera tiles. These tiles are also ceramic tiles but they have a distinct milky-white glaze.

They originated from Puebla, Mexico where fine clay is abundant and the practice of making them by hand has been around since the 16th century.

They’ve played an important role in Mexican architecture and evoke an atmosphere of warmth and beauty. They’re also quite easy to maintain.

This Mexican floor tile can be used for both rustic and modern designs. It’s also durable enough to be used for outdoor flooring.

There are plenty of choices, from striking geometric shapes to traditional Moroccan style tiles.

4. Mexican High Relief Tiles

High relief Mexican tiles are a subcategory of ceramic tiles. But they are characterized by hand-painted patterns that are undercut into the tiles.  As a result, the patterns look striking.

They make a great statement piece which is why they’re more suitable as kitchen backsplashes or as a centrepiece of sorts for the bathroom.

They can also add a flamboyant look to your yard or garden.

Stunning Mexican tile designs have been around for centuries, but recently, they’ve been experiencing a renaissance, and rightly so.

If you want to add a dash of color to your home, Mexican floor tiles are worth taking a look at.
